Nine editorial divisions

Specialism, organised.

CBM is organised into nine editorial divisions — each one dedicated to a single sector, home to nine specialist brands and three flagship live events, and built around practitioner editors with tightly-scoped audiences. Planned individually, bought in combination, and all answering to one independent publisher with offices in London, New York and Florida.

The nine divisions

Built around what our audiences actually do.

Each CBM division maps to a real sector our audience is working in — not a generic content vertical designed for SEO. That's why we don't have a "lifestyle" division, and why we do have a renewable energy one.

Division detail

Each division, in depth.

Every division is led by a specialist editor and supported by a dedicated commercial lead. Together they set the editorial calendar, run the brands inside the division, and plan integrated campaigns for the advertisers that buy into it.

01
Business

The UK's largest independent SME audience.

CBM was built on business reporting, and Business remains our largest division. Anchored by Business Matters — founded in 1986, nearly four decades of continuous SME publishing — and extending outward into Optimum for the senior CEO/founder audience, and Not Ltd for the 4.1 million sole traders, freelancers and micro-businesses that aren't running a limited company. Three titles, one joined-up view of the people who actually make Britain's business economy work.

  • SME news & analysis
  • Founder & CEO leadership
  • Scale-up & growth
  • Tax & HMRC
  • Sole trader & self-employed
  • Small business tech
  • Peak performance & wellbeing

02
Finance & investing

Where active capital reads.

The Finance & Investing division serves the people putting real money to work — portfolio landlords, SME owners financing growth, institutional and private-client fund managers, investors hunting yield, and the advisors who sit between them and the market. Anchored by Property Portfolio Investor in the UK, Fund Manager Today out of our New York office for the institutional audience, and a cross-brand SME finance vertical feeding off Business Matters.

  • BTL & mortgage markets
  • Yield & cashflow strategy
  • SME finance
  • Institutional fund management
  • Rates, inflation & macro
  • Tax & legislation
  • Alternative finance

03
Automotive

The UK's electric-first automotive audience.

CBM made an early bet on the electrification of the UK car market and it's paid off — launched in 2020, EV Powered has been 100% EV-positive from day one and is now the country's leading independent voice on electric vehicles. Its reach spans a carbon-neutral print magazine distributed free at ~200 Gridserve Hubs UK-wide, the Everything EV podcast, and a YouTube channel with over 3.5 million lifetime views.

  • Electric vehicles
  • Fleet & company car
  • EV charging infrastructure
  • Reviews & long-term tests
  • Industry news
  • Battery & charging tech
  • Commercial EVs & vans

04
Renewable energy

Home and mobility, electrified.

The Renewable Energy division is built on the observation that UK households are electrifying everything at once — the car on the drive, the boiler in the cupboard, the roof, the battery, the tariff. EV Powered and Electric Home are the two CBM brands serving that transition, and the division serves advertisers reaching net-zero-engaged consumers and early adopters.

  • Solar & battery
  • Heat pumps & heating
  • Home EV charging
  • Energy tariffs & bills
  • Smart home & HEMS
  • Grid & flexibility
  • Net zero policy

05
Travel

The people who actually book the trip.

CBM's Travel division is deliberately B2B. Travelling For Business serves corporate travel buyers, TMC procurement, travel managers and the suppliers who sell into them — airlines, hotels, rail, route operators and MICE venues. 21% of the audience sits in the US, which is exactly why we opened the New York office in 2018. Alongside the title sits the Travelling For Business Awards — a black-tie gala every October in London with 23 award categories covering airlines, lounges, hotels, MICE destinations, car rental, luggage and travel apps.

  • Corporate travel management
  • Airline & route news
  • Hotels & loyalty
  • Rail & ground transport
  • Sustainability & SAF
  • MICE & events travel
  • Expense & TMC tech

Property

Where portfolio meets place.

CBM's Property division covers the full spectrum of UK property with a clear investor-first angle. Property Portfolio Investor delivers data, yields and regional market intelligence for serious landlords; Electric Home adds the retrofit, heat pump and solar story to the division's coverage of the housing stock itself.

  • BTL & portfolio investing
  • Regional markets & HPI
  • Landlord legislation
  • HMO & multi-let strategy
  • Retrofit & EPC
  • Proptech
  • Development finance

Contract publishing

Your brand, published by CBM.

Contract Publishing is CBM's white-label division. We build custom publications for brands, associations and corporates using the same editorial, design and production team that powers our own titles — digital magazines, annual and sustainability reports, print + digital hybrid titles, and long-running customer publications delivered end-to-end.

  • Custom digital magazines
  • Annual & sustainability reports
  • Print + digital hybrid titles
  • Customer publications
  • Brand newsrooms
  • Thought leadership reports

Live events & awards

Where the CBM audience shows up in person.

The Live Events & Awards division turns CBM's specialist audiences into rooms. Three flagship awards anchor the year: the Business Champion Awards for Britain's best founders, scale-ups and specialist entrepreneurs; the Travelling For Business Awards every October for the corporate travel industry; and in 2026 the newly-launched Rural Business Awards, recognising the entrepreneurs powering Britain's rural economy. Around them sit sector summits, partner events, roundtables and brand-hosted dinners across the full portfolio.

  • Business Champion Awards
  • Travelling For Business Awards
  • Rural Business Awards (2026 launch)
  • Sector summits & conferences
  • Roundtables & dinners
  • Headline & category sponsorship
  • UK & US activations

How divisions work together

Planned as one, bought as one conversation.

The real power of CBM's division structure is how they combine. Three examples of the cross-division plays our commercial team builds most often — and the problem each one solves for advertisers.

Play 01 · The sustainability play

Reach the full net-zero consumer in one schedule.

Combines the Renewable Energy division with Property — so an advertiser selling heat pumps, solar, batteries or retrofit finance reaches EV drivers, early adopters, homeowners and portfolio landlords in a single integrated buy, rather than having to plan across four separate publishers.

EV Powered Electric Home PPI
Play 02 · The founder play

Reach the UK's full business founder ecosystem.

Combines the Business division with Live Events & Awards. An advertiser — typically a bank, fintech, professional services firm or growth lender — runs year-round branded content on Business Matters and Not Ltd, with headline or category sponsorship of the Business Champion Awards as the centrepiece.

Business Matters Not Ltd BCA
Play 03 · The capital play

Reach SME finance buyers and property investors simultaneously.

Combines Finance & Investing with Business. A BTL lender, commercial lender, wealth manager or specialist bank reaches Property Portfolio Investor's 46% portfolio-landlord audience alongside Business Matters' SME-owner base — the two audiences that drive most of the specialist finance market.
